ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in Asmara Ethiopia, Elizabeth McNeil Harris has lived in the US and Europe.

Harris' depictions of the human form are graceful tapestries of organic forms. Her drawings offer a window onto this extraordinary artist’s vision of the human condition.

Harris describes her creative process as a meditation. Her work, she said, explores the visual nature of energy, and the ways it moves through different materials and different objects. "The reaching limbs of a tree, the unfurling petals of a flower, the gestures of a model – all are expressions of the flow of energy," she explained.

Some drawings are flickers of the soul, beautiful in their purity. Some are poems. All, said Harris, "are products of poetic revery.”

Harris studied at the Art Students League of New York, the Bauhaus Dessau in Germany, and Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy and Oxford, UK. She has also produced documentary films for American Masters (PBS/WNET New York), the Discovery Channel, and Guggenheim Productions, Inc.
